Ladies Golf at Davenport Golf Club
Davenport Golf Club Ladies Section
A warm welcome awaits you, whether just visiting, looking to start playing golf or transferring from another Club.
We are a large, vibrant, active and supportive group of Ladies determined to enjoy all that the game of golf can offer and much more besides. With approximately 120 playing members we can offer a wide range of golfing opportunities for Ladies of all abilities. All our members are keen to help and support newcomers.
For those new to golf
We know how daunting it can be to take those few first steps. To help integrate you into the Section, and to learn the rudiments of the game our Golf Professional, Tony, runs group taster sessions, giving you the opportunity to meet others new to golf and learn the basics in a friendly, unthreatening environment. In addition, when you are ready we offer a “buddy” system with a more experienced golfer who will show you the ropes, introduce you to other members, partner you in social golf, mark a card for you as you work toward getting your handicap and answer any queries you may have.
On Mondays we hold a friendly roll-up which is open to players of all levels of ability. It offers the chance to play with a wide range of players, which in turn offers the opportunity to improve your game.
For those who have some golf experience:
We offer a varied programme of events throughout the year, some with “themes” (sometimes with dressing-up opportunities!!). Our regular competition day is Wednesday* with competitions for Platinum, Gold and Bronze members. The programme includes a mix of serious competition and the opportunity to relax and enjoy fun games.
* A programme of alternate day competitions for handicap purposes is in place for those unable to play on a Wednesday. ‘Alternate Day’ competitions are held on Sundays.
Presentation nights take place regularly throughout the year, often accompanied by entertainment, games, or a formal dinner.
Our Club House and its facilities are there to be enjoyed, whether it be for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks after playing or to join in the varied social activities. It is a great place to keep in touch with our ‘golfing community’ and many of our ladies who are no longer able to play golf love meeting for lunch and being very much still part of our Ladies Section.
We are lucky to have a thriving Mixed Golf Section with Bank Holiday and Evening Mixed competitions through the summer months and a Mixed Winter League during the winter. The Mixed Section is well supported, very friendly and give us the opportunity after each competition to relax with friends and enjoy a meal together. These competitions are open to Platinum and Gold members.
We are proud to represent Davenport Golf Club Ladies Section in many of the Cheshire and Manchester wide competitions offering the opportunity for players of differing levels of ability. We currently have ‘A’, ‘B’ and Plate teams in the East Cheshire Inter Club Shield; a Friendly team who play against local clubs and a team in the 9-hole Inter-club League. We also enter the annual Manchester and District Bell Cup and the Elizabeth Wilson Scratch Knockout.

So what more do we offer?
During the winter (October to March) there is Duplicate Bridge on Wednesday afternoons which is open to all Lady members. Several matches are arranged with other local Golf Clubs, these are most usually held on Friday afternoons.
A relatively recent addition, DGC golfing members now have the opportunity to take part in Indoor Short Mat Bowling as part of the Club membership. This activity takes place from October through to March and is held in the clubhouse main lounge area.
Having started in 2013, the Club now has 4 teams, playing in two different leagues, based in Stockport and mid Cheshire.
For the less experienced bowlers, we also have social bowling evenings with a friendly, drawn competition. Approximately 50 members currently bowl on a regular basis and any new member would be welcome to come along and try their hand.
We really look forward to sharing our Ladies Section with you, why don’t you come and give us a try?
