Great news, Davenport golf Club has completed the Women in Golf Charter and this has been signed by Graham Lake, Club Chairman and Shirley Luther, Charter Champion.
Is a statement of intent from the golf industry and golf clubs, to unite and to focus gender balance at all levels.
Commits us all to supporting measures to increase the number of women, girls and families playing golf.
Calls for positive action to encourage women to pursue careers in all areas of the sport.
Recognises the need for change that creates an inclusive environment within golf and our golf club.
The club has non-gender specific memberships.
Competitions for Platinum members will be held on Saturdays and competitions for Gold and Bronze will be held on Wednesdays.
We have a fantastic ladies section which is the envy of the County.
A targeted recruitment campaign is being undertaken to encourage more younger women into golf at Davenport G.C. which is one of the commitments.
We are already doing some fantastic work including:-
The junior golf scheme being run by Alan, Jamie and Christine with over 30 enrolled including 8 girls.
Christine has also achieved a golf coaching qualification. We do need some additional volunteers to help our juniors, again one of the targets on the commitments
The “Get into Golf” scheme is a pathway to golf for women run by our very own Pro Tony.
Elaine Sloane had a group of WI ready to start last year but this was delayed due to the Pandemic. We are confirming dates for the WI taster day for this year.
When we attract our new members, we will need more Buddies. We are formalising our Buddy process to ensure we provide a quality service to both the new member and the member acting as a buddy . Danuta Silva, Lady Vice Captain is formalising the “Buddy” scheme and creating a team of volunteers. In addition a welcome pack for all new members will be introduced.
Shirley Luther is the Charter champion and will progress the charter on behalf of the Club and reporting to Council and England Golf on progress throughout the year.
If you have any comments, want to help/volunteer please contact Shirley
Now that the commitments are confirmed, a copy of the charter, signed and supported by our Chairman is available here and it is displayed in the club and formally documented on the )ngland Golf website.
Lots for us all to do over the next twelve months and with your positive support, we will achieve!
